Nelson receives awards at Ridgewater College Agriculture Department annual awards banquet
Asa Nelson of Tracy, the son of Terry and Sue Nelson, received the Farm Operation and Management Outstanding Student Award for 2016-17 from the Ridgewater College Agriculture Department at its Awards Banquet on April 3.
This award is to be considered the most distinguished honor a Ridgewater College Ag student can receive. The student who receives this award has received the approval of fellow students and staff and has high academic achievement and excellent attendance
Nelson also participated in the State Postsecondary Agriculture Students contests which were in Marshall in February and the National PAS contests which were in St. Louis, Missouri, in March. He received the following awards at state competition: 1st place Impromptu Speaking, 1st place Crops Specialist Team, 1st place Crops Specialist Individual, 1st place Soils Specialist Individual, 1st place College Bowl Team, 1st place Soils Specialist Team.
He also received the following awards at national competition: 3rd place College Bowl Team, 1st place Crops Specialist Team, 1st place Impromptu Speaking.
Nelson was also recognized for being an Ag Department Ambassador, receiving an Adams Honors Scholarship and a CHS Scholarship, and for being on the Ridgewater College Fall Semester dean’s list.
Boersma graduates from Northwestern
Josh Boersma was among 267 graduates to receive bachelor’s degrees at Northwestern College’s commencement ceremonies May 13. Thirty-one students received bachelor of science in nursing degrees, while the rest of the graduating seniors were granted bachelor of arts degrees.
Dr. Rick Melmer, director of Leadership South Dakota, gave the commencement address. Internationally renowned opera star Simon Estes was awarded an honorary doctorate.
Boersma graduated with a major in computer science from Northwestern College. He is the son of Brian and Michelle Boersma of Marshall.
Wichern receives awards at the Ridgewater College Agriculture Department annual awards banquet
Agriculture students were honored at the Agriculture Department Awards Banquet, which was held at Ridgewater College-Willmar campus on April 3. Students received awards for their participation in state and national Postsecondary Agriculture Students (PAS) contests. The state PAS contests were held in Marshall, in February and the national contests were held in St. Louis, Missouri, in March. Students were also recognized at the banquet for other academic achievements.
Jerry Wichern of Tyler, the son of Duane and Judy Wichern, received the following award(s) for state competition: 1st place Career Progress — Power Structural & Technical and 3rd place Employment Interview — Ag Equipment Service.
Wichern was also recognized for being on the Ridgewater College fall semester dean’s list and for placing first for fall field day crop presentation.
